FAQ’s

What should I wear?
Whatever you’re comfortable in!  The important thing to remember is that pictures and portraits are meant to represent who you are for a given moment in time, so if you usually spend your day in black-tie or ball gowns, then by all means that’s what we should do; but if you’re more comfortable in a nice pair of pants & a dress shirt, or jeans and a t-shirt, we should do that.  Keep in mind that most sessions will take place outdoors, so plan accordingly.  If you can’t choose between a few looks, bring them all, and you can change your clothes as time allows.  Remember: portraits are about YOU not your clothes, so don’t stress out about it too much.

I’m having family pictures done, we should all wear the same thing, right?
Not necessarily.  Usually everyone should be in a similar style of dress (casual or dressy or play clothes, etc) since, for the most part, having one person in a tux with everyone else in jeans is not the look you’re going for.

So let’s say you decide everyone will be wearing khakis, there are two ways you can go: have everyone wear a similar color (varying shades of blue, for example) or have everyone wear a different color (making sure that they don’t clash).  Try to stay away from really dark or really light colors, these tend to be boring in black and white pictures.

You’ll want to pay attention to footwear, too.  Whenever possible, barefoot is the best!  I mean, do you want a picture of your toddlers adorable piggy-toes… or his sneakers?  When not possible, make sure everyone is wearing a similar style shoe.

Where should we go?
Anywhere!  An open place, with not too much shade, and some different items (doorways, rocks, benches) that we can interact with is great.  Again, the best pictures will represent you and your family, so pick a spot that you love, or that has special meaning to you.

I’m really not photogenic, and I hate posing, do I have to?
First, I believe that everyone is photogenic, it’s just a question of being comfortable with your photographer, and trying not to think about it too much.  Second, please don’t pose! I want you at your best & most comfortable, which (unless you’re Tyra Banks) means that Top Model is not what we’re looking for.  Take a breath, believe you’re amazing, and make a silly face if you need to.  I’ll keep shooting and get your best looks!

I want to have pictures taken, but I don’t have a good reason to…
Who says you need a reason? Your family will love having a new picture of you, and given the world of social media, having a nice, presentable picture of yourself can be important.

Can I bring my pets?
Sure!  I know a lot of people’s pets are more than just pets, so we should definitely include them!  Just make sure that they are well trained & respond to directions to sit & stay.  And keep in mind that it’s a good idea to have another person on standby to help wrangle your fur-kids.

What kinds of events do you do?
Pretty much everything is on the table.  I’ve done weddings, baptisms, bridal showers, baby showers, bachelorette parties, birthday parties, fundraisers… If you plan it, I’ll come take pictures of it!
